Why you will love this recipe

I never like to go anywhere without taking a something I’ve made and most of the time I turn to my no fail Scone recipe, however for something a little different, you can’t go wrong with these Date Scones.

    • Budget Friendly – You most likely will have all of the ingredients that you need for this recipe already in your fridge and pantry, and best of all, they can be ready in under an hour.
    • Quick to Prepare – These Scones can be ready to enjoy in around half an hour.

    Ingredients

Thanks to the dates and just a wee bit of sugar (which you could easily leave out if you prefer) I don’t think these scones need to be served with jam, they are perfect on their own with a thick layer of butter, however who I am to judge if you do want to add your favourite jam and even some cream to them.

Tips for Making these Date Scones:

    • You can use either pitted or Medjool Dates for this recipe. If using Medjool Dates, make sure you remove the seed before trying to cut into pieces.
    • If making these scones in a Thermomix and using Medjool Dates, you will not need to chop them for as long.
    • The scone mixture will be quite sticky, this is normal. Just add a little extra flour to your bench to help bring the mixture together.
    • This recipe makes approximately 9 scones, you can make them smaller/larger if you wish, however the baking time will vary.
    • To help the scones rise, I like to place them on the baking tray so that they are almost touching.
    • You can leave the sugar out of this recipes if you wish.
    • These scones are freezer friendly.

These scones are very light and fluffy. I would add more dates next time as I love dates.
This is a fantastic easy recipe and will be made many times more.

Best scones I’ve ever made. Did add more dates and soaked them in hot water for 10 minutes as they seemed very dry.
Without a rolling pin or scone cutter I patted the dough into a square, cut 9 squares, then rounded them by placing a floured drinking glass over them and jiggled them around until they were a nice round shape. Worked a treat and had no scraps to deal with.
      Thanks again.

Great recipe, I soaked my dates in boiling water and little bicarb to soften. I also use buttermilk. They were so soft light and fluffy
Next time I’ll double the amount of dates used

Whipped up a batch of these this afternoon and they were very tasty – thank you! Mine didn’t rise very much so trying to figure out what I did wrong there! Perhaps I made them too small! Will definitely be making again though – thank you 🙂

Hi Cassie, I’m so glad you enjoyed them! To help them rise as much as possible, I place them really close together on the tray (so that they are almost touching) and try to handle the dough as little as possible. I hope that helps 🙂

I made them as per the recipe and they tasted great. Only problem is that as they rise, they fall over. I placed them close together for support. I tried cutting them with a knife and leaving them close together with the same result.
          Help!

Growing up I had a neighbour who made me date scones and would bring them over fresh from the oven, I loved them. I tried making scones once many years ago and they turned out like rocks and I haven’t had the heart to try again. This reminded me of the joy from those childhood days so I might just have to be brave and have another go.

Oh scones with dates are great! I might still have to add jam though because jam makes everything better! If I’m pushed for time, I whip up some of my chocolate chip muffins, because I can literally make them in minutes and then bake and go!
