I know there are already a whole heap of Chocolate Cake recipes out there, but I promise you this delicious and moist simple Thermomix Chocolate Cake recipe really is the best. It’s an easy quick mix chocolate cake that is made using seven basic ingredients and can be ready to enjoy within 45 minutes.

Chocolate Cake slices sitting on a blue serving platter.

This recipe is practically a staple in our house and you will regularly find it in my kids lunchboxes as a special treat.

It is a budget friendly cake recipe as you just need pantry and fridge basics to make it. Don’t have any icing sugar? It’s delicious enjoyed plain.

To mix things up, I bake this cake in a variety of tins including round, square and loaf baking tins. It can also easily be doubled to make a larger cake.

Perhaps best of all, this cake is freezer friendly, even when iced!

    Thermomix Chocolate Cake Ingredients

    • Self-raising Flour – you can use gluten free flour for this recipe, although the texture may differ. You can also make your own self-raising flour by adding 1 teaspoon of baking powder the plain flour required for this recipe.
    • Milk – you can use either full fat or skim milk for this recipe.
    • Butter – I use unsalted butter for this recipe.
    • Cocoa
    • Caster Sugar
    • Vanilla Extract – vanilla essence can also be used.
    • Chocolate Icing –  I usually ice it with a basic chocolate icing (you can find the recipe here) but I also leave it un-iced sometimes (usually through laziness) and it’s still popular.
Ingredients to make a Thermomix Chocolate Cake.

How to Make a Chocolate Cake in a Thermomix:

    Step 1. Melt the butter.

Melted butter in a Thermomix bowl.

Step 2. Add the self-raising flour, caster sugar, cocoa, milk, eggs and vanilla extract and mix well to combine.

    Recipe Hints & Tips

    • I like to make this simple Chocolate Cake using a 28 x 18cm slice tin as it goes further and cuts into smaller size pieces which is great for the kids.
    • This cake can be baked in a variety of cake tins, please note the cooking time will vary if using a tin other than the one specified in the method below.
    • You can freeze this cake either iced or un-iced for up to three months.
    • You can also make this recipe as muffins, find the cooking instructions here.
    • The BEST way to enjoy this cake however, is by cutting off a big end piece (the best slice!) while it’s still warm and alongside a glass of milk – yum!
    • Don’t worry if you don’t have a Thermomix, you can find the regular instructions for this Simple Chocolate Cake here.

      Very forgiving cake

Used hazelnut milk and accidentally used coconut oil not refined coco oil and it still turned out great. Highly recommend the recipe
