This collection of lunch box ideas for kids includes many options which are also good for them!

    lunch box ideas for kids

Both of my older boys love to ‘help out’ (and I use that term VERY loosely!) in the kitchen, especially when it comes to preparing their own meals. Although it can make the process take a whole lot longer, by letting them help make their own sandwiches and pack their own lunch boxes, they are more aware of the foods they are eating and are learning to make good choices – well sometimes anyway! I’ve recently started getting Mr 5 to help pack his school lunch box each morning and his favourite job is definitely choosing what to put into his sandwiches and then making them!

Of course when Mr 4 sees his older brother helping to put his lunch box together for the day, he wants to make one for himself too!

As both of the boys usually choose sandwich fillings which don’t contain a whole lot of nutritional value (jam with butter and grated cheese with BBQ sauce are two of their current favourites) so I try to include a few other snacks that contain some goodness for them, for example they are both currently enjoying a pumpkin, carrot and banana cake for his special treat this week.

I also try to provide the boys with lunch box snacks that contain some nutritional value and at the same time are appealing to them as well.

Some of our favourite Lunch Box Ideas for Kids (approved by my boys) include:

    Homemade Popcorn

    Apple Pieces

    Medjool Dates

    Shredded Chicken

    Sandwich ‘Sushi’

    Corn on the Cobb

    Banana

    Mandarine

    Sultanas

Banana Bread made into mini loaves

    Apple Pikelets

    Homemade Muesli Bars

    Fruit Bun

    Sultana Scones

    Plain Pasta with grated cheese

    Baked Sweet Potato Wedges

    Zucchini and Cheese Fritters

    Plain Rice Crackers

    Grated Cheese

    Zucchini Slice

What are some of your kids favourite lunch box snacks and combinations?

Those lunch boxes look great… would your boys whip up a sandwich or two for me while they are at it??

The timing of this is perfect. I have been really looking for more lunchbox ideas. My daughter loves her sandwiches and will usually eat anything I give her, especially that Tip Top bread.

Could it be that the sambo is the first thing every kid learns to “cook”? This was certainly true of my kids!
