Looking at the recipes I share on this site, you could easily be forgiven for thinking I only ever make recipes which aren’t the best for you. While there is no denying I’m a big fan of ALL things sweet, I actually do also make healthy meals and snacks for our family most of the time – the majority of the ‘naughty’ stuff gets given away. One of my favourite treats to enjoy are these healthy chocolate bliss balls which thanks to the addition of cacao, are a great way to satisfy my chocolate cravings without over indulging. Even both of my boys love these chocolate bliss balls and have no idea how good for them they really are.
As well as tasting great, another great feature of this recipe is that it’s really flexile and easy to adapt to your tastes and needs and you can easily substitute or add ingredients depending on what’s in your pantry. To make these bliss balls lunchbox friendly simply leave out the walnuts, you could instead add a little coconut, pepitas or even raisins to add a little extra sweetness to these bliss balls.

If you don’t have a food processor or a Thermomix you can also use a stick blender to combine your ingredients, it works just as well.

Do you have to use medjool dates? Can you use other dates?
Lauren
You can use pitted dates, I’d just soak them in boiling water for 20mins or so first 🙂

Is it necessary to use maca powder?

Love how easy and wholesome these are – I’m always looking for snacks like that for my little one (and me of course!) These sound perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up for all of us. Pinning and can’t wait to try! Thanks for hosting a lovely #FabulousFoodieFridays party!

Love your recipe. I make a similar one and add flax meal and mini chocolate chips. I do not have a gram scale. can you estimate quantities of dates and nuts in cups? What is LSA? I live in the desert U.S 🙂
Lauren
Hi Amy, LSA mix is just ground sunflower seeds, almonds and linseed (flaxseed). This site has a really handy metric/imperial conversion table which will help you to confer the measurements http://www.taste.com.au/how+to/articles/369/weights+measurement+charts
It’s a pretty forgiving recipe though, so feel free to add what you like 🙂

You had me at the words “healthy chocolate”. My tornadoes love bliss balls so I’ll be giving these a go. They’ll be perfect for lunchboxes.

I know, who can resist those two words combined? My boys love them too and my husband thinks they are rum balls!
