Looking for the BEST No Bake Malteser Slice recipe? Well you’ve found it!
This classic slice is always a popular choice whenever I serve it at parties, and I love that I can make it a few days in advance of when I need it. This slice is slightly different from the original version as I use milk chocolate instead of dark for the base, however you can use dark chocolate if you prefer.
Regardless of whether you make this conventionally or using a Thermomix, this is a seriously easy recipe to put together. All you need to do is:
- Crush the Biscuits:
2. Melt the chocolate, butter and golden syrup
3. Combine the ingredients and pop into your baking tray
4. Then top with melted white chocolate and more Maltesers – too easy!
I find this slice takes a good four hours or so to set, however if you really can’t wait that long, you can check after three hours. Once set, slice into pieces and enjoy!
My Tips for Making This No Bake Maltesers Slice:
- You will need two blocks of milk and white chocolate for this recipe. Please note you will have leftover milk chocolate.
- I like to add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to the white chocolate when melting it, this helps to cut the slice without the white chocolate layer cracking.
- I use a 20cm square baking tin for this recipe, however you can also use an 18 x 28cm slice tin if you prefer, your slice pieces will just not be quite as thick.
- If you can’t find Marie Biscuits, you can use any other type of plain sweet biscuit.
- For a richer base you can use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.
- The mixture will be quite sticky when you are combining the ingredients, this is normal.

I could see 2 year olds and 40 year olds eating these up! Are Maltesers a British thing? I’m guessing the American equivalent would be a Whopper?
Lauren says
Yep, they were sure popular with all ages! I’m not sure to be honest, I’m from Australia and they are readily available here. They are little chocolate balls with a malted centre – so yummy!
Serena | Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch says

My husband loves Maltesers and asked for this slice as his birthday cake! I made it in a silicone ring tin (didn’t have the Maltesers on top or the white chocolate though) to look like a cake and oh my goodness! It was yum and I’m surpirsed it lasted as long as it did!
Lauren says
What a great idea Suzanne! I’d love to see a photo of your creation if you would like to send one to me 🙂

These were amazing. .. so rich though! Mine ended up being 3cm square which was a good size. ..any larger and some may struggle to finish one! Will definitely make these again. ..look fabulous all cut up on a plate! Great present.
Lauren says
Yes they sure are rich! I’m glad you enjoyed them 🙂
Natalie says
Loved the look of this recipe but it went rather wrong when I tried it! I used digestive biscuits, and when I mixed the crushed biscuits into the melted chocolate, butter and golden syrup mixture there seemed to be some sort of watery mixture left over. Any thoughts as to what went wrong there? Or is that supposed to happen? This watery mixture ended up mixing slightly with the White chocolate :/. Also, are you supposed to leave this mixture to cool before adding the maltesers? As the chocolate melted off the maltesers when I added them – which doesn’t seem to have happened in your photos… Loved the look of these slices so would definitely try them again with some small amendments :).
Lauren says
Hi Natalie, Thank for your message. I’m really sorry it didn’t turn out for you.
Re: the watery mixture, I’m assuming this might have been oil from the butter? Maybe you could try reducing it a little next time (if you use the same brand) and that might help. I normally add the maltesers straight away as it’s easier to combine, the chocolate does usually melt off but you will still see the maltesers within the slice. I hope that helps 🙂
Tamika says
How long do these last in the fridge?
Lauren says
Hi Tamika, I’ve kept this in the fridge for around a week before.
Linda Waldrep says
In US. What is golden syrup?
Lauren says
Hi Linda, it’s similar to maple/corn syrup 🙂
Maureen says
Just wondering if you did it in the Thermomix you wouldn’t get those pieces of Maltesers throughout, would you, cos they would all get blitzed?
Lauren says
Hi Maureen, I did make the slice pictured using my Thermomix, it does chop them up a little but there are still large pieces. You could always use it on reverse if you want to make sure the Maltesers stay big. I hope that helps 🙂
Lynda says
Can u add ingredients for the usa or what can be subbed.thanks
Lauren Matheson says
Hi Lynda, Sorry but I’m not sure what is available in the USA to use as a substitution – I’m from Australia. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Merry Christmas x
Louise says
When you say place the chocolate butter and syrup into a bowl, it would be better to stipulate that you only mean the milk chocolate. Am going to try this recipe.
Lauren Matheson says
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll clarify this. I hope you enjoy the recipe 🙂
Kerri says
Haha, this is exactly what I did, added both the milk and white chocolate…then got to the step for the white chocolate top and…oops! I continued on and everyone still loved it, despite there not being a white choc top on it! I see you’ve since clarified the instructions, thanks!
Sasha says
Hi , just wanted to say thank you sooo much for sharing this recipe! It was that much of a hit at my friend’s McMillan cake afternoon that I won ‘star baker’! I will definitely be attempting these again in the future 🙂
Lauren Matheson says
Oh thanks much Sasha, I’m thrilled you won star baker and you enjoyed it 🙂
Deirdre says
I tried this recipe, but when I added the wet ingredients to the biscuit, the butter started to separate. It rose to the top and settled in greasy pools. I’m not sure what I did wrong. Might you have an idea? I’d love to try this again.
Lauren Matheson says
Hi Deirdre, THanks for your feedback 🙂 Hmm, I’m not sure what has happened. Possibly the fat content of the butter you used may have caused it to split?
M.jenkins says
This recipe is absolutely Morish
Elizabeth says
Where can I buy these biscuits…?
Lauren Matheson says
Hi Elizabeth, you can use any type of plain biscit for this recipe xx
Cindy says
Do you know if this can be made in advance and then frozen until needed?? Thanks
Lauren Matheson says
Hi Cindy, I haven’t tried to freeze this slice before, I’m not sure how the chocolate would go when you defrosted it. sorry I can’t be of more help xx
Anne-marie says
Hi, how long would this recipe keep for once made?!
Lauren Matheson says
Hi Anne-marie, I’ve kept this slice in the fridge for up to one week 🙂
Tiffany says
Hello, just wondering the best way to cut into squares once it’s set? I seem to crack it every time I put the knife through the chocolate top. Thanks, Tiff
Lauren Matheson says
Hi tiffany, I usually let it sit for 10 minutes or so to slightly soften and then run a knife through boilig water before cutting
Jordan says
You can drizzle some of the leftover milk chocolate on the top for a classy decorative effect.
