To make this Air Fryer Roast Chicken, you will need:
Chicken – I used a 1.4 kilogram whole chicken for this recipe. You can certainly us a chicken which is a different size, however please note your cooking time will vary.
Marinade – You can certainly mix it up when it comes to the marinade you use for this recipe. We’ve also tried it with onion powder and seeded mustard with delicious results.
How to Cook a Roast Chicken in an Air Fryer
- First, you need to combine the ingredients for your marinade together in a small bowl
- Brush the marinade over ALL of the chicken and leave around 1 teaspoon in the bowl.
- Place the chicken breast side down into your Air Fryer Basket and cook for 30 minutes.
- Carefully turn the chicken over and brush over the last of the marinade. Cook for a further 10 – 15 minutes or until cooked through.
- Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before carving to serve.
Frequently Asked Questions
For this recipe, I used a Phillips XXL Air Fryer (7.3 litre capacity) to cook a 1.4 kilogram chicken. I have cooked chickens up to 2 kilograms in my Air Fryer with no problem. You can cook a 1.4 kilogram chicken in a 5 litre Air Fryer, however please check that the chicken you have purchased will fit in your machine before starting this recipe.
As a general rule, you want to allow approximately 15 minutes per 500 grams of chicken. Please note, all Air Fryers will have variances between their cooking temperatures and speed.

Air Fryer Roast Chicken Recipe
Equipment

Ingredients
- 1.4 kilogram Whole Chicken
Marinade
- 3 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
- 1 tbsp lemon juice fresh
- ½ teaspoon sweet paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- pinch black pepper
Instructions
- Combine the marinade for the chicken in a small bowl.
- Use a pastry brush to cover the chicken with the marinade. You want to give both sides of the chicken a good coating and ensure you also coat in between the wings etc. Leave approximately 1 teaspoon of marinade in the bowl.
- Pre-heat your Air Fryer to 180 degrees and place the marinated chicken breast side down into the basket. Cook for 30 minutes.
- Carefully turn the chicken so that it is the breast side up and brush over the remaining marinade. Cook for a further 10 – 15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. You can check this by using a meat thermometer (you want a reading above 75 degrees celsius) or by piercing the chicken with a skewer at it's thickest point and ensuring the juices run clear.
- Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before carving to serve.
