This easy Chocolate Slice recipe will take you straight back to your childhood!

    Easy Chocolate Slice Recipe

For a delicious afternoon snack or treat for the kids lunch boxes, you really can’t go past this classic baked Chocolate Slice. It really couldn’t be easier to put together simply melt the butter and mix all of the ingredients together – and you most likely already have all of the ingredients you need in your pantry!

This slice does share some similarities to my favourite Chocolate and Coconut Slice recipe, however if you don’t like coconut (or have run out of it!) you can use rolled oats instead. The addition of chocolate chips is also optional and if you don’t have any, you can simply leave them out.

When it comes to decorating your slice, you can be as inventive as you like. This slice is delicious when topped with a simple chocolate icing (recipe below) plus some crushed Maltesers or desiccated coconut, or you could also choose not to ice it at all.

Tips for Making this Easy Chocolate Slice:

    • You can omit the chocolate chips from the slice if you wish.
    • If you don’t like coconut, you can use rolled oats instead.
    • This slice is freezer friendly both iced and un-iced.
    • You can use store bought chocolate frosting to top this slice if you prefer.
    • This slice is best stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.

    Equipment

    • 18 x 28cm slice tin

    Ingredients

    • 1 & ¼ cups self raising flour 190 grams
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa
    • ¾ cup coconut 65 grams
    • ½ cup caster sugar 110 grams
    • 125 grams butter melted
    • 1 egg
    • 100 grams chocolate chips optional

    Chocolate Icing

    • 1 & ½ cups icing sugar
    • 3 tablespoons cocoa
    • 1-2 tablespoons milk
    • 100s and 1000s to decorate

    Instructions

    • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees and line an 18 x 28 slice tin with baking paper.
    • Place the egg into a mug and lightly whisk to combine.
    • Add the egg, butter and the dry ingredients into a large bowl and mix to combine.
    • Transfer the mixture into your prepared slice tin and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon.
    • Place into the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes.
    • Carefully remove the slice from the oven and let it sit to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • To make the icing, mix icing sugar, cocoa and gradually add the milk until you get a smooth but not runny consistency. Spread over cooled slice and decorate with 100s and 1000s.

    Thermomix Instructions

    • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees and line an 18 x 28 slice tin with baking paper.
    • Place the butter into your Thermomix bowl and cook for 3 minutes, 60 degrees, speed 2 to melt.
    • Add the remaining ingredients and mix for 10 seconds, speed 4.
    • Scrape down the sides of your Thermomix bowl and mix for a further 5 seconds, speed 4 to combine.

    Notes

    • If you prefer your slice to have a more 'cake like' consistency, bake for 10/12 minutes.
    • To store, keep in an airtight container in your fridge.
    • This slice is freezer friendly.

That egg salad with curries mayonnaise looks like it was meant for us, we are off to the country and I can see myself grabbing eggs from the farmers markets and making this. Lovely to hear you have a new co-host welcome Dannielle. x Have a good weekend Lauren.
