This Apple and Pear Crumble makes a great easy dessert for the whole family. Both regular and Thermomix instructions are included.
Inspired by my easy Apple Crumble recipe, this Apple and Pear Crumble is a simple dessert everyone will enjoy. You can make this dessert ahead of time (it will keep in the fridge for up to four days) and then simply reheat it when needed, which helps to make this a fab weeknight dessert too.
I’ve included the instructions to make this recipe both conventionally and using a Thermomix, however when it comes to cooking the fruit, although it can be done in a thermie, I do find it easier to do it on the stovetop as you will need to do it in a couple of batches (and use a lot more water) if using the Thermomix. If you have the time, you certainly can cook your fruit in your Thermie if you would prefer to.
Regardless of which method you use to make this recipe, it is sure to be a hit with your family, especially the kids! We usually enjoy this crumble with ice-cream but it’s also really yummy when eaten with custard too – or you can eat it straight from the baking dish like my husband!!
My top tips for making this Apple and Pear Crumble are:
- You can use different quantities of apples and pears when making this recipe.
- This recipe is freezer friendly.
- If you don’t have a 20cm round baking dish, you can use a different size, the cooking time of your Apple and Pear Crumble may vary though.
- If you can’t find granny smith apples, you can use other varieties.
Apple and Pear Crumble
Equipment
- 1 x 20cm round pie dish
Ingredients
- 750 grams pears peeled and quartered
- 750 grams granny smith apples peeled and quartered
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ cup caster sugar
- 2 tablespoon water
For the Crumble
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup plain flour
- 90 grams butter chilled and cubed
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200ºC fan-forced and lightly grease a 20cm round pie dish.
- Peel and slice the pears and apples into quarters and place them along with the water, cinnamon and caster sugar and 2 tablespoons of water into a large saucepan with the lid on and cook over a medium heat for 6 - 8 minutes or until the fruit is just tender when tested with a knife. Drain the excess fluid and transfer the cooked fruit to your pie dish.
- While the apple and pears are cooking you can make the crumble topping by placing all of the crumble ingredients into a medium bowl and rubbing the butter in until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping over the top of the cooked fruit and place the baking dish into the oven to cook for 30 - 35 minutes or until the crumble begins to turn a lovely golden brown on top.
- Carefully remove from the oven and serve.

Enjoy!

This is a super easy yummy crumble.
The only change I felt it needed was to leave out the water from the crumble. It didn’t need it. When I added it, the crumble became sticky.

My crumble isn’t crumbly enough! What do I do?

Hi Sarah, hmm I’m 100% sure what has happened. If you felt the crumble was too ‘thick’ and not cooked enough, I’d suggest using a little less next time and maybe increase the cooking time? Thanks x
