Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1.4 kilogram Whole Chicken

Marinade

  • 3 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice fresh
  • ½ teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • pinch black pepper

Instructions

  • Combine the marinade for the chicken in a small bowl.
  • Use a pastry brush to cover the chicken with the marinade. You want to give both sides of the chicken a good coating and ensure you also coat in between the wings etc. Leave approximately 1 teaspoon of marinade in the bowl.
  • Pre-heat your Air Fryer to 180 degrees and place the marinated chicken breast side down into the basket. Cook for 30 minutes.
  • Carefully turn the chicken so that it is the breast side up and brush over the remaining marinade. Cook for a further 10 - 15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. You can check this by using a meat thermometer (you want a reading above 75 degrees celsius) or by piercing the chicken with a skewer at it's thickest point and ensuring the juices run clear.
  • Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before carving to serve.

Notes

Check the size of your Air Fryer!
It's VERY important to check that the chicken you have purchased will fit inside your Air Fryer before starting this recipe. I have a Phillips XXL Air Fryer and have cooked chickens up to 2 kilograms easily.
Your cooking time will vary!
The cooking times above are for a 1.4 kilogram chicken cooked in a Phillips Air Fryer XXL. Please note the cooking time will vary depending on your machine as some makes/models can vary. If you are using a smaller or larger chicken you will also need to adjust your cooking time accordingly.
Test your chicken to ensure it's cooked!
The best way to test your chicken is by using a meat thermometer and inserting it into the thickest part of the chicken - the breast. If you don't have one, you can use a skewer and check that the juices run clear.
