Preheat your oven to 180 degrees celsius (fan-forced) and line a loaf tin with baking paper.
Place the dates into your Thermomix bowl and mix for 4 seconds on speed 7 to roughly chop. If you would like your dates to be finer, mix for a further 3 seconds on speed 7.
Add the water (you can use hot water from the tap), brown sugar and butter and cook for 4 minutes, 70 degrees, speed 2.
Scrape down the sides of the Thermomix bowl and add the vanilla extract, self raising flour and bicarbonate of soda. Mix for 12 seconds, speed 5.
Scrape down the sides of the Thermomix bowl and mix for a further 5 seconds, speed 4 to combine.
Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf tin and gently smooth the surface. Place into the oven and bake for 35 - 40 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean when instered into the middle.
Allow the Date Loaf to cool in the tin for 15 minutes before carefully removing and allowing to cool completely.
