No Fail Scone Recipe

  • 4 cups of self raising flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup of butter - chilled and cubed.
  • 2 1/3 cups of milk


  • Preheat oven to 230 degrees, and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  • Sift the flour and salt together in a large bowl.
  • Rub the cubed butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Slowly add  approximately 2 cups of milk whilst gently mixing in with butter knife.  If your mixture is still a little dry, add a bit more milk.
  • Once dough is starting to come together, pour onto floured bench.  Using your hands, gently bring the dough together and flatten slightly.
  • Cut out your scones using a round cutter, and place close together on the tray.
  • Brush a little milk over the top of scones before placing in the oven for 13 minutes.
  • To test is scone is cooked, it will make a hollow sound when the bottom is tapped.
