Why I use a Planner

I’ve written before about HOW I use my planner, but thought today that I would talk about WHY I use a planner and how it helps me feel in control (well just a little bit anyway!) of our everyday life.  Hopefully this post also helps you make a decision about if using a planner is right for you and if it does, you can enter my competition to win one of two Leanne Baker Daily Planners that I’m giving away – see the bottom of this post for all the details.

Why I Use a Planner

I’ve been using diaries and planners for as long as I can remember and while I’m all for using technology to help make my life easier, when it comes to planning, I really don’t think you can go wrong with a ‘real life’ paper planner.

Now I know how I use my planner isn’t for everyone, however for me, having things set out in my planner helps me to feel more organised and in control of life, and reduces a lot unwanted anxiety and stress. Over the years I’ve used a few different types of diaries and planners (usually a weekly view) however since switching to a daily view this year, there is no turning back.  My daily view planner gives me the extra space I need to not only keep track of appointments, deadlines and ALL of my boys social activities (of which there is a LOT of!) but it also allows me to plan and space out jobs I need to do around the house, errands to be run ad goals and targets that I personally want to achieve.  Some of the other reasons why I use a planner include:

Keeping on top of housework

Yes it’s not very glamorous, but keeping a schedule of jobs around the house that I need to do and tentatively popping them down on different days to do them (because let’s face it ‘life’ often happens and things change) helps take away some of the overwhelm I used to feel about trying to keep on top of cleaning around our house.

Time for me

The idea of ‘scheduling’ some time for myself into my day came along when I started using my Leanne Baker Daily Planner and following her Facebook group at the beginning of this year.  It’s so easy to forget to do things throughout the day that make you happy and feed your soul and having a daily reminder to do something for myself, even if it’s just washing my hair or reading a chapter from my book has had a positive impact on my life.

Goal Setting

I use the notes pages within my planner to write down and then keep track of goals that I set for myself and that our family sets for ourselves throughout the year.  Having these goals written down (with an anticipated timeframe for completion) helps to give us the drive to complete them – and there is also that sense of satisfaction ticking them off.

Meal Ideas

My current planner includes a weekly meal planner that I sit down each weekend and fill out. When I find myself stuck for ideas, I now flick back through previous meal plans to get some meal and snack inspiration – and if I’m still stuck, I check out this post of 50 family friendly dinner ideas that I put together 😉

If you are looking for a daily planner to help you get your life organised, I’ve got TWO Leanne Baker Daily Planners (Flourish and Celebrate designs – which you can view here) to give away. For your chance to win a Planner, please leave a comment below telling me why you need one of these gorgeous planners in your life.

This competition has now closed – congratulations to Kelly and Nic who have won a planner.

Also congratulations to Tania, Rachel, Tamara, Lesley and Kirraleigh who have also won a LBD Notepad.

Because I need to take back control of life in 2018 rather than letting life run me! Family, friends, home/meals, work all need my attention and having a planner to help me prioritise and balance all that, as well as taking care of myself is exactly what I need.

This isnt for myself but for my busy daughter. My daughter(20) not long moved away from home for the first time to work as a governesson a remote rural property between Mildura and Broken Hill and is also doing a teaching degree by correspondence. This planner would help her manage her day and time. With 4 young children to look after and teaching two by school of the air it would help her organise and plan her day and lessons as well as fit in some much needed time for herself.

Being a wife, mum, friend, daughter, sister, working full time and starting a little baking venture – i have little reminders everywhere, some of which undoubtedly go missing. A planner, no, a good planner would help me keep my life in some order. I do my best to give my time to as many people as I can – but I lose track. This will help me plan better than I do now

Between hubbie working late some evenings and having irregular meetings and myself doing shift work we need to be super organised and know who’s coming and going! For me, i need to write things down so I can see whats going on. As it is only hubbie and I living here (all family in Ireland) we need to be extra organised as there’s no one else to help out. A Leanne Baker Daily Planner would certainly take some of the stress away.

I currently run 5 different 2 to do lists (me, home, the 2 kids, home business 1 and home business 2). I’m forever feeling that if I pay one List attention, another one falls behind. I love the concept of the Top 3 to choose something for three lists and at least get that done each day, rather than the all of nothing approach.

As someone who suffers with anxiety, I find day-to-day tasks can be quite arduous and I had never considered using a planner before reading this blog. Scheduling housework is probably one of the simpler things to have suggested but I have never considered this before. As a full-time single parent, scheduling is one of life’s necessities and along with the planner, I will be incorporating many of the recipes ideas you have suggested. It’s amazing how the simplest of suggestions can make a huge difference. Even if I don’t win this competition, I will be looking in to a planner. Love Create Make Bake and Thermobliss (I think I have all the e-books and eagerly awaiting the calendar to come!)

I would love one of these organisers as I’m beginning a new chapter of my life in 2018 and I’m moving in with my boyfriend of 3 years and I think this organiser would help contribute to having great meal ideas for my boyfriend to come home and have for dinner and will help me organise what I’m doing through out my week juggling school and also being a stay at home girlfriend and making a successful women out of myself. Thanks for the opportunity to win this I really appreciate it.

So many ideas for recipes, gifts, tasks, storage solutions, garden ideas. Phew! It’s exhausting having this many brain tabs open! Between running them around between cheerleading, piano lessons, football (3 codes!) and fitting in my own gym classes – sometimes things get forgotten. I love the simplicity of the LBD range. I need one of these gorgeous lbd planners in my life because I’m totally old school and love using my old wall calendar as opposed to my phone one! I’m also a shocker at forgetting things, so I’m always writing reminders and to do lists. The only problem is, I tend to write them on little bits of scrap paper like the back of shopping dockets, then can’t find my lists when I need them!

How juggling all the events dates and schedular
Can become a nightmare carving out you time is almost impossible unless you plan your bit off and it’s a logistical game if jenga make sure you pull out the correct piece or it’s all gonna crash down

She’s loving, kind, thoughtful, giving and most of all the best friend a girl could have. She leads a very busy life working up to 3 jobs at times around her 2 boys and husband who is out of town Mon-Fri. On top of that she takes on small catering jobs for events around town and is the first person to jump in and lighten a load when help is needed. I know she has a diary system in place and writes herself lots of notes so I think a LBD Planner would be perfect for her to keep track of her days. I would love to gift this to her.

Two weeks before Christmas almost two years ago we lost our 11yr old son to brain cancer.
The first year with out him was hard but i still have three other children and a husband and had yo kedp going. Towards the end of last year i stated o fall apart. This year our youngest started school and while it was exciting it left me at home for the first time in 16 years with no one to look after.
Just getting out of bed and getting the kids to school is a huge accomplishment.
Getting normal housework and simple tasks such as cooking are celebrated if i can actually get them to happen.

I can not continue with another year like this one so i decided a planner will help me set goals to help me feel human again and get control back of my life.

I love that the lbd planners allow you to keep track of so much of a busy life, i think it would be perfect.

The difference in our family is that my husband works a 24 hour rotating shift so we have absolutely no routine. One day he can drop kids off, next day pick up, next day he’s sleeping! I would love to use the planner to take control of this (we’ve only left our 5 year old son at school once this year by mistake!) and have a go-to place to see what each family member is doing and be more organised. A planner, to keep all the To Do lists in one place (rather than ‘misplaced for now’) sounds like a very good idea!

This diary will save me! Hubby just recently moved interstate for work and we have 4 kids (11,9,6,9 months). Between sports, dancing, appointments, school things- I need to stay on top of things. This diary has everything I need except the price tag as I can’t afford one

Oh I would love to win a planner! I have seriously over commited my time between work, sports and managing a home. My default response to anything social is ‘no’ and the thought of trying to squeeze in coffee with girlfriends seems impossible! I would love a planner to help organise my time, manage daily tasks more efficiently, get my diet back on track and prioritise family time. I have been following the LBD page for so long and am so in love with her planners!

I have such a huge year next year! After having a beautiful baby girl. 2018 sees me with new change of returning to work with two kids. I’ve never had a planner but after reading about Leanne’s planners I feel it would give me the organisation and control to reduce the anxiety of working and raising two bubbas 🙂 what a generous offer you have to give!

An LBD planner would be a dream. With my husband and myself working full-time (both looking to study next year), a daughter starting kindergarten and my son going into yr 2. My life will be CRAZY. To add to the caos we have 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs all in one house, which means lots of food, cleaning and organisation. Please help me keep my sanity with an awesome planner

I would love to win one of these planners as 2018 is shaping up to be a massive life changing year. Two weeks ago I had gastric sleeve surgery so a planner would help me stay on track with my food and water intake as I am finally focusing on myself for a change. My husband and I also just got 50/50 custody of his children / my step children so a planner would be great to keep track of handovers, after school activities anf everything that comes with school aged children. It will also help me track my work days, 1 year old daughters daycare days and hopefully help a little with budgeting. A busy 2018 ahead but one of these planners would make everything a little bit easier.

Oh I would LOVE to win one of the Leanne Baker daily planners! Each day is a whirlwind with 3 boys in primary school – one is off to high school next year so I’ll be managing the activities for two different schools – and my little 20month old princess! Hubby is a shift worker so that adds an extra element of surprise to each day 🙂
But I think the main reason that I would love one of these planners is so that I can make it a priority to be mindful about planning each day and setting aside a little time for myself too. Thank you!

Returning to work after my second baby I often feel like I’m chasing my tail and just getting no where. I would love to get my **** together and get organised – this looks like an amazing tool to be able to do it. I’m also looking forward to getting my ThermoBliss calendar on the wall so my husband can no longer say “but I told you that was on” when we are rushing around at the last minute.

Aside from the fact that these planners are stunning, I need one because my eldest is starting full time school next year and I’m increasing my work fraction. Having one of these planners would mean I can attempt to stay on top of everything, as well as hopefully not neglect myself which so often happens one every I get busy.

I already have my Take Flight planner and can’t wait to use it next year. I would love the chance to win one and gift it to my cousin who also has 2 littlies at home and has a very busy life. Her eldest is 4 with ASD, which means multiple appointments each week and he is also starting kindy next year. I would love her to have a planner to help keep her on track each week and also allow her time to focus on self care each day as well.

Between work, dropping off my youngest at Childcare, sorting out my eldest with starting school next year & all that entails, meal planning, food shopping (trying to think of quick healthy meals with no time!), cleaning, washing (& actually putting the clothes away!!), swimming lesson, seeing my husband, the list is going on and on!! The only thing I can think of is to get an amazing organizer to help me out with where I stand with each minute/day/week!! Please, please, please pick me!!!!

Suffering from anxiety, I have found that writing things down helps put things into perspective for me. I don’t feel so overwhelmed and know that I am achieving things everytime I cross something off a list. Plus throw in lots of doctors appointments for my son and life in general, and I don’t know how I would survive without a planner anymore. I have purchased a LBD for my daughter for 2018 but having seen it in real life, I an eager and excited to have one of my very own.

I am a mother of 2 girls, one of which is at school full time next year and the other seems to have a full on social life at the age of 3! I’m a nurse and work shift work 3 days a week and am also beginning to set up a business from home. This planner has everything I need to get my life under control as well as looks beautiful!

I will be starting homeschooling via distance education (with three kids 5 and under at home) who each have a variety of home/external therapies to keep track of. Oh my goodness I need this planner in my life for a million different reasons because as a Woman, Wife and Mother I have a million things that need to be planned and organised.

The LBD has absolutely everything I need and want in a planner all wrapped up in a beautiful Floral design. Much like its cover design name I too will Flourish in 2018 with the use of this planner.
It will help me to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be and I want and need that so badly for both myself and for my family.

I need this planner to help me with organisation, meal planning, havit tracking, goal setting and time scheduling leaving me more time for myself to create, bake and make…, see what I did there 😉 Three of my favourite things to do during “me time”, that’s my self care.

Just like a well risen cake having this planner and all the benefits it will bring to mine and my family’s life I will rise each day and aiming higher and higher.

Thank you so much for the opportunity xx

I would love to win a planner – not for myself, but for my mum! She’s always been a hardworking woman, is spending all her time looking after us (her children), her grandkids and for quite a while now also my grandparents, who can’t look after themselves anymore. I literally don’t know how she does it, I would hope that the self care part on each page reminded her to do something for herself! She leads a busy life as a full time mum and doesn’t take time out for self care as she is always putting her kids 1st. Maybe with a planner, I am hoping she will learn to schedule in some time for herself. One of her girls also has Down Syndrome which requires more appointments and time so an LBD will help her manage that as well. Thanks x

She even comes to the house so they fell more comfortable. I seen her appointment book the other day and and I just know she would be able to change her life around to with this wonderful planner. Ultimately it would be great to encourage my husband to write things into the planner instead of the scraps of paper which he loses most of the time. Surely he can’t lose a whole planner and I’d never have to hear those pesky phrases. “Oh honey I did tell you about that you must have forgotten” or “I wrote you a note but you must have lost it”. On a positive note I could whack him over the head with when he tries to argue that he never spends time out with the boys.

I’ve gotten carried away with digital organisation and between managing an online calendar, Trello boards, a Tick Tick to do list, Evernote, and multiple school and sports apps as well as an assortment of paper notebooks, I don’t know whether I’m coming or going! I think I need to regroup and simplify by going back to a paper planner where everything is in front of me in one place. I tend to work better when writing things down and crossing items off my list(s), and when that resource is pretty, I’m even more inspired to use it!
