Over the weekend I posted this photo on my personal Facebook page. We’d had a great morning and were on our way to swimming lessons. My husband was home and the boys were both in a great moods and been happily playing with each other all morning. It was one of those rare ‘perfect’ moments and after a week of sick and cranky kids, I was more than eager to share it with the world.
It was afterwards when I realised this picture really wasn’t wasn’t an accurate representation of how our week had been. So in the spirit of full disclosure and ‘keeping it real’ while we did have some lovely moments together, times where my boys happily played together and were full of smiles, the following also happened last week….
– Our Toddler has decided his new favourite game is playing ‘horsey’ with his brother. He is the rider, his brother is the horse… You guessed it, this ends in tears – always.
– Another ‘fun’ game our toddler came up with last week involves placing his little brother in a headlock and almost choking him…. fun times!
– Always the little investigator he also discovered where my present stash is kept in the linen cupboard. Using his brothers old bassinet he was able to better inspect what was on offer and now asks for a present each time we go past the door. Guess what I’m doing today while he is at kindy?
I know we are lucky, the boys generally do play pretty well together. Unfortunately this is how it ended up most of the time last week – note the truck on the floor had just been thrown at our baby boy’s head.
As they didn’t seem to be getting along so well, Independent play was a big hit. Although I must admit I am almost ready to give away our Lego after it has been scattered from one end of the house to the other.
– After sneaking to the bathroom (for the first time by myself that day) I returned to find the contents of the two bottom shelves of our pantry scattered across the floor…. at least they were happily playing together?!
It wasn’t all tantrums and tears, we squeezed in some selfie fun wearing our hoodies – please excuse the poor quality photo.
So that was our week. Yes we had some great moments, lots of cuddles and kisses which I wouldn’t change for the world, but it was one of those weeks were the bad just outweighed the good. Just remember, for every sweet and lovely photo shared on social media, I can guarantee there have been many no so happy moments that have not been shared!
How has your week been? I’d love to hear some more ‘keeping it real’ stories!
