Last year when I discovered a special offer for a stay at Big 4 North Star Holiday Resort in Hastings Point, I jumped at the opportunity to book what would be our first holiday as a family of five. When it came to choosing to dates to visit, I thought I was super clever by checking out the school term dates for this year, however once our little man started school this year I quickly discovered that in my sleep deprived state I’d booked our trip for the last week of Term 1 instead of the first week of the school holidays – whoops! Apart from this minor hiccup (and the arrival of ex tropical cyclone Debbie on the last full day of our tip!) our stay at Big 4 North Star was fabulous and all five of us had a great time, so today I’m sharing 9 reasons why you should stay at Big 4 North Star Holiday Resort in Hastings Point.
Location
It took us just over an hour to drive down to Hastings Point from where we live just south of Brisbane, making it a nice short car trip with all three boys. However if you were travelling from interstate, it’s a really short drive from the Coolangatta airport.
As well as accessibility, it’s also located close to Pottsville and Carabita Beach and is a short drive from Byron Bay, making it a great base for day trips.
Accomodation
There is a great variety of accomodation types available from camp sites through to villas. We stayed in a Luxury Villa which easily and comfortably accommodated the five of us. The boys had their own bathroom while my husband and I enjoyed our ensuite complete with spa bath. The kitchen had everything we needed and the boys loved having a bbq each day thanks to the one located on our veranda.
On Site Cafe
We had breakfast included with our accomodation package which was awesome, after all, who wants to be cooking all the time when you are on holidays?! The boys LOVED the buffet and thought all of their Christmas’s had come at once when they were able to have pancakes for breakfast EVERY DAY! My favourite thing about having a cafe on site was being able to grab a real coffee whenever I needed one.
Short Walk to Beach and Estuary
With the kids and lugging all of our stuff, it was just a 10 minute walk to the beach and estuary. We visited the estuary more than the beach with the kids as it is perfect for the little ones.
Water Park
The kids (plus my husband and I!) LOVED the water park located within the resort and spent a heap of time there.
Away from Hustle and Bustle
Another thing we really enjoyed was that we were away from the ‘busyness’ of a big city, even though we were a fairly short drive away from home. Although the park was fairly busy during our stay, it was a really relaxed and happy atmosphere.
Family Friendly
I’ve stayed at a few places with the kids over the years, but Big 4 North Star Holiday Resort in Hastings Point would have to be the most family friendly by far. The resort is really aimed at kids and families with loads of things for the kids to do, which also means Mum and Dad get a little time to relax too!
Indoor Play Centre
This was a hit with our boys, especially when the torrential rain and winds from ex cyclone Debbie moved into Norther New South Wales and South East Queensland and they were able to run off all their energy having a play instead of being stuck in the cabin!
What’s your favourite family friendly holiday destination?

Narelle
Looks fantastic Lauren, we will be heading that way in May next year, I think we have found our accommodation for our family of 5. Thanks for the review.
Sammie @ The Annoyed Thyroid
It sounds like everyone had a wonderful time. It sounds like it’s perfectly located and how good that there’s plenty to keep the kids busy inside as well as out! And it’s a big fat yes to pancakes for breakfast!
